Curly, Larry and Moe

(Hmm, Curly, Larry and Moe. I guess that makes Preston Manning "Shemp".)

Here is the Conservative leadership "issues matrix", from Darren at DarrenBarefoot and the BlogsCanada E-Blog.

I especially liked this:

"Ms. Stronach said she is looking at the Alberta model, where the government has expanded the role of private companies in the delivery of health services to the public, but not gone so far as to allow people to pay out of their own pockets for medically necessary services from private providers."

"--Globe and Mail, Jan. 27, 2004"

Ms. Stronach has, appearently, been living in some sort of Etobicoke cacoon where Canadians like Ralph Klein. Alberta? Your holding up Alberta as the example of good government?

There are plenty of great things about Aberta. I visited several times as child. I have family there. The Stampede's great. I saw the Canada-Russia exhibition game at the Saddle Dome at the 1988 Canada Cup. Fantastic.

But there's a reason Easterners (2/3 of the population) call Alberta "Texas of the North". And it's not flattering one, either.

Speaking of Texas, I also liked this:

"Ms. Stronach called for...a 'common security perimeter' with the United States."

"--Globe and Mail, Jan. 27, 2004"

If Stroanch even understands this issue, I'll bake her a cake. To create a "'common security perimeter" would require U.S. approval of Canadian immigration, refugee, travel, drug and internal security policy. We'd have to agree to bar people from entering the country, stop people from flying and "detain" Canadians based on criteria set by the United States. I call it "PatriotAct.ca".
