Business leadership can certainly be one qualification for political leadership. Taking on positions of great responsibility -- to rise or fall based on the harsh realities of success and failure -- can test one's mettle. No argument there.

But yet, it isn't Belinda Stronach's lack of political experience that bother's me, it's the quality of her business experience.

Stronach didn't rise to power based on business realities, harsh or otherwise. She became CEO of a major corporation, by age 35, because her father owned the company. This doesn't mean she isn't qualified to run Magna; she's shown remarkable strength as a team builder and I'm sure she's learned the family business. But it does mean that she isn't qualified to run the country.

Ms. Stronach should have realized all this. She should have known that her looks, age and gender -- as unfair as it is -- would only make the problem worse. Stronach should have entered the Conservative leadership race ready to counter these doubts. After a week, she has still failed to do so.

The complete lack of judgement shown by Stronach entering the race is enough to show us that she shouldn't be allowed to win it.
